Gensler’s Shanghai Tower

A short video discussing Gensler’s Shanghai Tower – a twisting skyscraper that will top off around 630+ meters, have 9+ sky gardens, a rainwater recycling system, and wind turbines.

Thanks to AMNP reader John, AKA “mightygoose”, for hitting us with a link to the video. If you have a suggestion for a video, or anything else you think should be on AMNP drop me an email at architecture@myninjaplease.com.

Colbert Report Full Episodes Political Humor Gay Marriage

Mitchell Joachim – previously featured on AMNP here and here – was recently on the Colbert Report, and after watching the clip I couldn’t help but post it. But, to add a little more substance to what the man is working on I’ve also included a Youtube video of Mitchell Joachim speaking in NYC last year.

“We’re going to do what any good architect does – tear them down, and start again”.

This is pretty feckin’ hilarious stuff – which I thought might help some of you through your Monday.

Monty Python- Architect Sketch

We normally have something a little bit more engaging than this for our Sunday video feature – but I stumbled across this on Youtube and found it pretty hilarious. Enjoy!

VS: Koolhaas on Charlie Rose

[googlevideo]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4988845957693494574&ei=tGD0Sb-jBpPErAK5toDqBQ&q=koolhaas[/googlevideo]

For those of you uninterested in an old-ass interview between Rose and Alan Dershowitz – Koolhaas comes in around the 23 minutes mark, to discuss the release of Content [so I think the video is from '04].

Something about Koolhaas telling Charlie Rose that OMA is ‘apparently famous’ and ‘part of an architectural system [he] strongly detests’ made the video irresistible to post after having KLAUS’ comic featured last week.

Funny how the more of an iconoclast someone becomes, the more they become the ‘norm’ – making a new polemic necessary all over again.

Procedural ’5th Element’ Modeling

Our ninja ‘jhawkred’, from The University of Kansas, hit us up with this video of CityEngine 2009 at work – a procedural city modeling tool that generates some pretty kick-ass environments. Here in the video it’s used to create ‘NYC 2259′, as seen in Luc Besson’s sci-fi must-see The Fifth Element.

‘Blogitecture’ @ MIT

Blogitecture at MIT HTC Forum from kazys Varnelis on Vimeo.

Here’s the audio [along with some images] of a discussion on blogs, architecture, theory and media between Kazis Varnelis and Javier Arbona [of Archinect fame] moderated by Mark Jarzombek.

AMNP would be an example of a low-brow, poorly-written architecture blog. Your welcome.
