Brad Pitt : Starchitect in the making?
So, I’ve got to be honest – this whole Brad Pitt wanting to be an architect thing has me less than thrilled. Something about the whole I went to school for five years and did all that studying + bullshit [apparently not as important as my professors suggested] had left me with this feeling of…jealousy? envy? oh no wait – aggravation.
Now, don’t start defending Brad just yet – I actually don’t really have any issues with him being rich enough that his hobby is my job – I’m a little flattered, really. I am, however, slightly salted at EVERYONE else though, what with the general publics willingness to listen to a movie star tell them that buildings should be nice, designed by architects, and sustainable. Haven’t the rest of us BEEN saying that for a minute now? I mean, where’s People Magazine when Ken Yeang or Bill McDonough speak?
All of this celebrity B.S. aside – Pitt’s Holy Cross Project in New Orleans is actually looking pretty good [images above]. The project consists of 5 homes and 18 apartments [take a virtual tour here] – all aiming to achieve LEED Platinum status. The buildings will be carbon neutral, and fitted with solar panels and energy-efficient appliances – dropping each unit’s energy consumption to 75% less than typical homes in the area. The project is full of other sustainable features – including rain water reclamation systems, rain gardens, permeable paving system, and possibly river turbines [in the Mississippi].
This ninja even narrates PBS’s Design / e2 [which we had here on architecture.MNP before] – not bad…

[...] I wonder if his ‘intern’ Mr. Pitt will get some CAD work to do? Pick up some red-lines? Do some precedent analysis, building-type studies, maybe a little x-ref coordination… [...]

[...] That’s right my ninjas, the [pretty siiick] PBS series on sustainable/green design, e2, is back. The orginal series, e2 : Design [narrated by Brad Pitt] will be re-airing this fall [check local PBS listings], and coming with a new season of episodes showcasing green design and technologies that are being put into use to help our planet [and us] – some excerpts of which can be found here and here on architecture.MNP. In addition, Morgan Freeman is narrating a second e2 series entitled ‘e2 : Energy‘ – which is also a must-see. This time autodesk even got involved, and is a sponsor of both series – the new e2 : Energy and the second season of e2 : Design. [...]
