Offbeat Homes: Spider Web Chalet

spider_web_chalet.jpg

Who in their right mind would stay in a hotel called ‘the Spider Web Chalet’? My Ninjas, Please! [For those who don't know, spiders + ninjas are mortal enemies, and by ancient decree must do battle whenever they encounter one another.]

…the “Spider Web Chalet” is a uniquely built structure also known as the The Hang Nga Tree House Hotel, Hang Nga Guesthouse & Art Gallery, and The Crazy House (depending upon who you ask).

Dang Viet Nga, daughter of Truong Chinh, former president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam designed this hotel so that guests would feel as if they were staying in a really great fantasy world [via Offbeat Homes].

  1. Thanks for the link! You’re welcome for the mentions but it’s really your fault — this is my favorite architect blog. Never snobby just knowledgeable and always interesting. Kind of a good all around deal. Spiders me are mortal enemies too. Egad.

  3. I just visited it. It is like a communist mix of some Disneyland tree house and a miniature golf course. The architect was trained in the USSR, and it shows. The concrete is crumbling and rebar is sticking out all over. Heaven forbid that anyone considers this is how to re-unite humankind and nature. Did you look at the interior with the shrine to her father, Truong Chinh? It is like the pigs went crazy decorating the farmers house with the most colonial, ostentatious chandeliers they could find (hint: Animal Farm reference).
