Ninjas on the ‘net

After a busy week not doing AMNP-related things, I've managed not to get engulfed by these internets. I know, that sounds impressive - but this doesn't mean I didn't waste time on the web, it just means it wasn't related to any one thing in particular.

One thing I've noticed worth mentioning [while writing this post, actually]: Firefox 3 kind of hates on contractions while spell checking. Weird.

Moving along – here are this week’s picks for Ninjas on the ‘net that you should be reading/checking out. If you have something you’d like to add, drop a link in the comments section – or toss us an email [architecture AT myninjaplease DOT com] and I’ll make sure it gets in next weeks post. Enjoy!

- For starters, peep the New Yorker for Paul Goldberger’s ‘The Sky Line’, and the article “Forbidden Cities: Beijing’s great new architecture is a mixed blessing for the city” [really, I'd check out his entire 'Sky Line' series, if you haven't].

- Wire&Twine present ‘50 Ways to Help the Planet‘ – my favorites are:

14. RETHINK BOTTLED WATER
Nearly 90% of plastic water bottles are not recycled, instead taking thousands of years to decompose. Buy a reusable container and fill it with tap water, a great choice for the environment, your wallet, and possibly your health. The EPA’s standards for tap water are more stringent than the FDA’s standards for bottled water.

and

17. SHOWER WITH YOUR PARTNER
Sneak in a shower with your loved one to start the day with some zest that doesn’t come in a bar. Not only have you made a wise choice for the environment, but you may notice some other added…um…benefits.

Definitely ninja-approved.

- Mirage.Studio.7 hooks us with D.K. Ching’s hand-lettering font [and hates on macs, which we don't support - Windows sucks.] Download the font for free directly, here.

- Always bringing us the truth, Subtopia features a scaled replica of a maximum security prison cell at Guantanamo Bay, part of Amnesty International’s ‘Counter Terror with Justice‘ campaign and their ‘Tear it Down‘ project.

- Speaking of f*%ked up practices involving prisoners, go watch ‘In the Name of the Father‘ – a movie based on the true story of a bunch of innocent people from N. Ireland who go to prison because of the UK’s bullshit anti-terrorism laws [which the Patriot Act is partially based on]. Check it out here

- We’ve featured this before, but it’s worth mentioning again – check out  Walk Score to see how your neighborhood ranks in terms of walkability, via atelier a+d

- The NY Times hits us with some new designs for the High Line.

- Check out Casas Minimalistas, a blog about fly fishing.

- The Guardian has Philippe Starck and reality TV? Ridiculous

- Our ninjas over at Wallpaper* cover London’s Architecture festival, a pretty kick-ass video of the Kiefer Technic office, Graz, and some vintage photography.

- Metropolis POV critiques political font choices [follow the links, they're great], and asks ‘Who [the hell] is David Fisher?‘. Our answer? A clown nobody ever heard of before he designed a ridiculous building.

- In NYC [or visiting anytime soon]? Head over to MoMA and check out Ateliers Jean Prouvé [April 25, 2008–March 30, 2009] and starting in July, Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling [July 20–October 20, 2008] – an exhibit featuring 5 prefab homes built on the museum’s west lot. Should be siiick.
- Have you seen AMNP in Modern Design Magazine [June 2008 issue] yet? Don’t sleep…

- And last but most definitely not least – don’t forget about the rest of the MNP [My Ninja Please!] crew: the parent site, MyNinjaPlease; MusicMNP; GreenMNP; PolitricksMNP; and RobotNinja.
