New Adidas HQ
I mean – who doesn’t spend all day dreamin’ about soccer? Well the ninjas at Adidas obviously do, and are so serious about their love of the game that they’re lacing their cleats building up tight to get some work done. What?

The new adidas marketing and operations building, designed by the German firm kadawittfeldarchitektur is based on the concept of “Laces” linking the building’s various spaces/functions together. The new office building will form an internal courtyard, which will be crossed + interconnected by pedestrian paths/bridges – creating the ‘laces’ that pull the spaces together. This courtyard then becomes an additional space for interaction, physically linking the various offices/programs across the building. Could be pretty siiick.
Nice renderings, too.

The new offices will stand in stark contrast to the existing ‘Brand Center’ – a low, horizontal box made of a reflective black glass [seen here, an in the topmost image].

Oh. I get it. “Laces.” It’s a metaphor because the bridges and paths are “lacing together” the different buildings on the campus. And the client sells shoes! Awesome.
If the current owner sells the building to an online software company, can they call the same elements “hyperlinks” or “USB cables” or something like that? Even awesomer.
This solution is a much better metaphor, then, than the owner’s old one, which apparently looked like a box. A big…shoe box. Cool.
I have to go now and buy a new pair of shoes. Of course, they won’t be Adidas. I’m buying another pair of black Kenneth Cole slip ons to match the rest of my wardrobe. No laces, though. Pity.
