This thing is kind of crazy. The Dyson Airblade, by those same guys who bring you those fancy + expensive vacuums, is a hand dryer that uses a ‘blade’ of air to dry your hands in about 8 seconds flat. The airblade uses about 80% less energy than standard hand dryers, and saves you all that tiresome rubbing your hand together. It even includes a HEPA filter to remove 99.9% of bacteria from the air, leaving your hands clean rather than fungus covered after sticking them inside a public hand dryer.

Next step is to make these things full size, so you can dry off instantaneously after a shower. Think about it: install a giant one of these things so that you step through a ‘blade’ of air while you step out of the shower, and boom – you’re dry.

  1. those things are awesome…basically move your hands up and down in them 5 or 6 times and your all set. and yes, if full-sized versions of this showed up i’d shell out the dough for it.

  2. I’ve used one of these, and they work like a charm. Sure beats waiting five minutes for the pseudo hair-dryer type hand dryer drys your hands… and then you wipe them on your pants anyways.

  3. Interesting that Dubs says he moved his hands up and down several times – the instructions just say pull them out very slowly. Which I did. And had to make a quick dash for the paper towel dispenser to finish off the job. Sorry, Dyson fans, but paper towels have it – they’re a lot quieter, cheaper – and much MUCH more efficient.

  4. well, i’m sure you’re right that it doesn’t work exactly as well as advertised…but even moveing your hands through it a couple times is DEFINITELY more efficient than PAPER. I mean, using paper towels instead of standard hand dryers is foolish itself. Wasting trees, generating waste, blah blah blah…

  5. According to the Dyson website the airblades are 97% cheaper to run than keeping your bathroom stocked with paper towels. And that doesn’t include the costs of cleaning the paper towel mess!

  6. True story.

Man, the way we plugged Dyson on this one, them bitches should role to all our houses and install a body-sized ‘blade’. I know Bill Gates has one already.

  7. RIGHT?!? I feel that way about a lot of things we feature on the site tho, so I’m biased.

For real tho – I want one just set into the walls or something, so I turn the shower off and step right trough it. Shit would be gangster. Plus, no more wet towels…

  8. see http://www.prodryers.com for more information on hand dryers vs paper towels. Many studies have been done on hand dryers vs. paper towels. However, most studies are outdated in comparison to today’s hand dryer technology. Today’s technology proves that with hand dryers vs. paper towels, the hand dryers are the clear winner in every way. Paper towels cannot be recycled, consume precious resources, and use excessive landfill space. 20,000 gallons of water are polluted to make one ton of paper towels. 17 trees are consumed to make one ton of paper towels. A company named American Dryer makes the following hand dryer that can help lead the way to saving the environment. EXTREMEAIR® Hand Dryer With its patent pending technology, the EXTREMEAIR® is 3X faster – it dries hands completely in 10-15 seconds. This is accomplished with a powerful blast of warm air that quickly breaks up the layer of surface water on a user’s hands for quick removal and evaporation. While all American hand dryers save trees and reduce landfill waste – The EXTREMEAIR® uses up to 80% less energy than conventional hand dryers. The new GXT EXTREMEAIR hand dryer has been GreenSpec® Listed. This is an unbiased list of the most environmentally friendly products published by the editors of Environmental Building News. The EXTREMEAIR met tough GreenSpec standards because it conserves energy and reduces maintenance and waste. The EXTREMEAIR helps facilities qualify for LEED® credits. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The EXTREMEAIR helps facilities qualify for LEED-NC, LEED-EB AND LEED-CI Credits in two categories: EA Credit 1– Optimize Energy Performance EA Prerequisite 2 – Minimum Energy Performance

  9. Many studies have been done … yeah, right. By whom? The electric hand-dryer companies perchance? I have given the Dyson every fair chance I could. I tried giving it longer than ten seconds but it switches off automatically. IT DOESN’T DO WHAT IT SAYS ON THE LABEL! YOUR HANDS ARE STILL WET! There’s an Italian one which is much better and might convert me – but Dyson? Forget it. Paper towels are more efficient. And, by the way, are made out of recycled paper, so forget all that tear-jerking stuff about the trees.

  10. What’s with these anti-Dyson jagoffs that vehemently state how ineffective Dyson products are? There is always a few on every blog I go to. It’s like they are moles from all of the declining vacuum cleaner companies and indy vac shops that are on a mission to spread disinformation. Anyways, I tried the Airblade at the Costco in Ogden, Utah, and my hands were dry after I pulled them out of the machine. I don’t know what that Pompous bell-end’s problem is; paper towels more efficient, my ass.
